What is Phosgene?

Phosgene gas is a commonly used toxic gas in the creation of everyday products. These products range from foam mattress pads, foam used in the seats of cars, medical devices, and polycarbonate plastics. This gas is produced by combining carbon monoxide and chlorine with a catalyst. Phosgene is a toxic and dangerous gas at room temperature so the use of portable and fixed gas detection monitors is important. When working around phosgene be sure to use other personal safety equipment that will protect your skin, eyes and lungs.
